Browser fingerprinting

Browser fingerprinting collects unique characteristics of a user’s web browser to build a distinct profile. Websites and applications use that profile to identify and track users for purposes such as security, personalization, and targeted advertising.

Example

When a user visits a website, the browser exposes details such as its type and version, installed plugins, screen resolution, time zone, and available fonts. By collecting and analyzing these attributes, a website can create a unique browser fingerprint that helps identify the user on future visits. Advertisers may use browser fingerprints to track online behavior and serve targeted ads, while websites may use them for fraud detection, personalization, or to enforce restrictions on access or content.
